Looking for Polk building records? Start with the county’s search guide
The county lists separate tools for residential permits and broader building records, plus a records-office contact when online searches do not resolve a question.
Have the address, parcel or project details ready · Confirm which agency holds the record

Residents looking for a home’s permit history or approved building documents can begin with Polk County’s official public-records page. The page separates residential permit searches by address from broader electronic building and land-development records. Choosing the right starting point can help avoid sending a request to an office that does not hold the material.
Two building-record search routes
The county describes its Residential Building Permits by Address tool as an address-based search. A separate Official Electronic Records search covers building permits, elevation flood records, approved plans and other approved projects, with searches by project number, project name, parcel or address. These are descriptions of the county’s listed tools, not a claim that every property or historical document is available online.
The residential search destination did not load during our November 7 browser check. We therefore could not verify its current results or perform a sample property search. Use the official source page below to reach the current tools; if a search fails or returns nothing, contact the records office rather than treating an empty result as proof that no permit exists.
Prepare a focused request
Have the property address and, where available, the parcel number, project name or number, document type and approximate date range ready. These practical search details can help staff identify the material you want. A permit search alone is not a professional assessment of a building’s condition or a guarantee that proposed work is allowed. Ask the relevant building office about a specific project.
When you need help
Polk lists its Records Management Liaison Officer at RMLO@polkfl.gov and (863) 534-7670. The county also links its Public Records Center, which it says supports requests with an account or anonymous submission and provides tracking, status and responsive records. This report did not create an account, submit a records request or disclose anyone’s property details.
The county notes that its Clerk of Court, Sheriff, Supervisor of Elections, Tax Collector and Property Appraiser each handle their own organizations’ public records. Confirm the responsible agency before assuming the county commission’s records office is the correct destination. Ask staff about any applicable charges, available formats and timing for your particular request; this guide does not promise free copies or a fixed turnaround.
The official county guidance was reviewed November 7, 2026. It is the starting source for current search links and agency contacts. The online residential-search availability remains unverified because that destination timed out during our check.
